CBD PRODUCT SECURITY

Another reason for the sudden appearance of so many CBD products on the market is its versatility as an ingredient. It can be taken in a variety of ways to facilitate a quicker absorption or a slow release.

Pont Packaging already supply to the Pharmaceutical, VMS and Food & Beverage sectors and so are well positioned to offer a varied assortment of bottles and jars in both glass and plastic. Not only containers but also tamper evident and child resistant caps, dosage applicators and accessories too.

uv light PROTECTION

In the same way that UV light can be bad for our skin, it can also contribute to the breakdown of CBD. To protect your product from light degradation, use a darker container such as amber glass or darker plastics giving UV protection. Also, advise your customers to store it in a dark place such as a cupboard or a fridge.

AIR PROTECTION

There are several molecules in air that could react with CBD but the most damaging is Oxygen. Shelf life can be dramatically increased by keeping the product in an airtight container. Think about the fill volume in your container and whether there will be an air gap at the top.

temperature PROTECTION

To maintain the integrity of CBD, it should be stored below 21 degrees Celsius as high temperatures are another factor that can break it down. Again, something to consider when advising storage to consumers.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING PACKAGING FOR YOUR CBD PRODUCTS

• Is it easy to use for the consumer?

Consider your customer and how they will use the product from start to finish. How it needs to fit in their hand or travel in their pocket. It’s important to consider the percentage of CBD in your product and how that translates to dosage for the end user. Envisioning them dispensing the product will help you choose a narrow or wide neck container or indeed a dosage element such as a spray or pipette.

Can I label it clearly with all the info I need?

Quite often these high value items are sold in small containers but the nature of the product requires vital information to be clearly visible. Often, the outer packaging is used as required or a leaflet added but the outer surface of the container can be optimised with a parallel side for the biggest possible labelling area.

Pont can also assist with bespoke designs if you have specific packaging requirements.

• Is it secure?

Now consider where the consumer will store and use the product such as in the home or on-the-go. This will help inform your choices for a material for your packaging i.e. plastic or glass and also the compatibility of your container and closure. You don’t want any leaks!

As Pont is a complete packaging solution provider, we can supply both the container and closure for peace of mind that they’re a good match. We also have options for liners to protect the contents further.

Product testing is usual in the development process and Pont can supply samples as needed to assess the compatibility of our packaging with your formula.

How can it be transported? Is it suitable for online sale deliveries?

E-commerce is bigger than ever so it makes sense to analyse this as part of your product development. Glass is a fantastic packaging material but will generally require more outer packaging to secure it in transit which can add to costs. Larger packaging sizes will also effect the cost of deliveries but also the convenience. Think about smaller sizes that could fit through a letter box.

Is it consistent with my Brand? Are there matching sizes for my different product lines?

Packaging is key when developing and launching a new brand so think carefully about the image, style and materials of the product as well as its price point. High quality packaging will add value to high quality ingredients.

Think ahead to future possibilities such as a range of uniform containers to use as samples, gift sizes, standards and bulk sizes. Also think about reliability and continuity of supply. You don’t want to make changes to your packaging after launch.

How will it affect the environment?

Now, more than ever, this is a key factor when choosing packaging but it’s difficult to go for the most environmentally friendly option after having considered all the other crucial elements of safety and security.

Pont can advise on the sustainability of a package no matter what material is used, from the glass or plastic container, the choice of colours used and also the best options for labels and closures.
