Recycled PET Products

Recycled PET packaging materials

If you need to secure your products in plastic packaging, how can you improve the sustainability of your brand? PET is a very versatile and practical plastic.

It’s an appealing choice if you want your consumers to see what they’re buying and it provides excellent barrier properties against moisture and oxygen for a longer shelf life. It is also easy to recycle so consider the benefits of adding recycled content to your packaging.

The various benefits of recycled plastic

Created, used, recycled, recycled again.

If you’re unsure about switching to recycled PET, we can offer our customers the best available options in sustainable materials and packaging solutions for successful recycling in a circular economy.

  • Recycled PET offers very similar technical properties to virgin PET
  • Products made using recycled PET can still be classified as food grade
  • It is easily collected in domestic recycling and can be recycled several times with stable quality
  • It can be recycled again in the same stream as virgin PET
  • Recycled PET uses less resources and less energy to produce than virgin PET

Although 100% recycled PET would seem to be the ideal solution, there must balance between the sustainability of the product and the resources of recycled PET raw material globally. Based on this, we suggest a recycled content of 30%.

Also to consider here is the discolouration of the PET which varies depending upon how much recycled content is added and can also vary from one batch to another. However, today’s consumers are becoming increasingly used to seeing this discolouration on their retail products making it an indicator of your commitment to more sustainable packaging.

Recycled PET FAQ's

What does "made from recycled PET" mean?

The term “made from recycled PET” means that the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic has been manufactured wholly or partially using post consumer PET that has been gathered, sorted and ground into recyclate ready to be used again.

What is recyclable PET?

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic is one of the most commonly recycled polymers. Being recyclable means that once a plastic container has been used it can be sent to the recycling centre to be sorted and shredded into “recyclate”. This recyclate can then be moulded into a new product. It saves the plastic from being disposed of in landfill where it will take many years to decompose.

Is recycled PET safe?

Yes, recycled PET is safe to use for a wide variety of applications as its technical properties are very similar to virgin PET. It holds the same food safety certification as virgin PET and is commonly recognised in many retail products due to the discolouration in the usually clear containers.

Is recycled PET recyclable?

Yes, a circular economy is based on items being recycled again and again. However, where glass or metal can be recycled almost infinitely, most plastics including PET can only be recycled a smaller number times before the quality is affected.
